Fundraising is what keeps SLURP going. The money we raise helps cover everything from ingredients and equipment to volunteering sessions, campaigns and community projects, turning great student enthusiasm into real action.
Most of our fundraising goes directly towards sustaining SLURP’s work across Edinburgh. We also support selected external causes and partner organisations, including Bethany Christian Trust, the Food Programme Palestine Appeal, and individual families in Gaza through the University of Edinburgh Palestine Coalition.
Our events are a chance to raise money, bring people together, and make volunteering with SLURP possible!

How do we fundraise?
Bake sales
Our bake sales have been one of SLURP’s biggest fundraising efforts, raising £2,360 across 2025/26.
Soul Soc Jazz Bar Fundraiser
Our Jazz Bar collaboration with Soul Society brought SLURP members and friends together for an unforgettable night of live music, dancing and fundraising, raising an incredible £720 for SLURP.
Palestine Coalition Music and Food Fundraiser
SLURP joined other food societies and student musicians for a vegan food and music fundraiser at the Edinburgh Student Housing Co-operative. The event brought students together over Palestinian-inspired food and live music, while collecting donations for families in Gaza through the student Palestine Coalition.
Trampoline Society Race Night Fundraiser
The Edinburgh University Trampoline Society hosted a fun-filled Race Night that brought students together while raising £580 to support SLURP’s work.
Ceilidhs
Our annual ceilidh with Student Action for Refugees is always one of the highlights of the year. At our most recent ceilidh, we raised £1,325 in total through ticket sales and raffle prizes. The money was split equally between SLURP’s food support initiatives and STAR’s partner charity, Edinburgh Community Sponsorship Homes.
Palestine Picnic and Paint Fundraiser
In collaboration with the University of Edinburgh Palestine Coalition and Hearty Squirrel, SLURP ran a spring fundraiser in the Meadows featuring a sports day, picnic and paint session, and community fundraising activities. We raised £700 for Adam and his family in Gaza.
What do we use the money for?
Money raised by SLURP helps us to:
- Buy ingredients for cooking and food preparation at our daily volunteering sessions
- Contribute to selected external appeals and partner causes, specifically causes supporting Palestine
- Buy cooking equipment, containers, and serving materials
- Fund awareness campaigns, publicity, and promotional materials
- Run events that help recruit and bring together volunteers
